Akaka’s Inadequate Taepodong Policy

Response to North Korea's missle testing

Akaka’s Inadequate Taepodong Policy

In his July 5, 2006 Honolulu Star-Bulletin article entitled “My View,” Dan Akaka restates his Iraq policy, apparently now followed by Ed Case: “Eternal delay before conducting military action.” This same policy would logically lead Senator Akaka to wait until after a Taepodong-2 missile hit Hawaii before voting for any military options against North Korea. In a world where threatened nuclear and bio-chemical weapons can and do manifest, we need to consider the whole realm of options, to include preemptive measures. As Mark Beatty’s grandmother use to say, “Clean up little messes before they become big messes.” Nuclear and bio-chemical fall out in Hawaii would be a big mess.
